Jakarta – BRIN Public Relations. Jiho Hwang, Director of the Strategic Planning Center at the Korea Institute of S&T Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP), presented strategic studies and policy recommendations on optimizing Indonesia’s R&D funding system. His presentation was delivered at the Dissemination Forum on the K-Innovation Partnership Program, themed “Strengthening Indonesia’s Research and Innovation Ecosystem: Funding, Infrastructure, and Technology Foresight for Sustainable Growth”, held at the BJ Habibie Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (Sept 9).
On this occasion, Jiho Hwang identified Indonesia’s low ratio of R&D expenditure to GDP as a key challenge. He stressed that national development based on science and technology must be adopted as a top-level national policy. Therefore, both the ratio of national R&D expenditure to GDP and the ratio of government R&D spending to total expenditure need to be consistently increased year by year.
“Developing R&D funding schemes for global collaboration should be further strengthened, as this can accelerate knowledge and technology transfer through international research cooperation. In addition, there must be better alignment between actual R&D investment and national S&T policy. National S&T policy should be harmonized with realistic R&D investment solutions,” he explained.
