The ASEAN Workshop on Advancing AI through HPC 2025 was held at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in Jakarta on 17 December 2025. The event was organized in collaboration with the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat. The workshop aimed to help ASEAN countries better understand how high-performance computing can support the development of artificial intelligence.

As AI becomes a growing part of the digital economy and everyday life, strong computing systems are essential to manage large volumes of data and turn AI concepts into real-world applications. The workshop brought together policymakers, researchers, and experts from ASEAN and the Republic of Korea to share experiences, discuss practical examples, and explore ways to strengthen regional cooperation.

With ASEAN countries at different stages of AI and computing development, discussions focused on resource sharing, skills development, and the importance of clear rules to ensure AI is developed in a safe, fair, and responsible way. Korea shared its experience in technology and innovation, along with its support for ASEAN through joint programs that focus on improving computing infrastructure and practical uses of AI.

Participants also discussed plans for a regional high-performance computing facility that can be accessed by researchers across ASEAN and Korea. Overall, the workshop aimed to build stronger partnerships and support the use of AI and high-performance computing for sustainable development and shared benefits across the ASEAN region.
